The only real flaw in this otherwise incredibly accomplished work is that given the brevity of its constituent parts, it is unable ever to go into enough detail to be able to be fully useful on any given topic (granted, it would have to be unreasonably long to manage to do this—and the reader is certainly given incentive to look further). Nevertheless, this gives the book a final advantage: its style and content are academic, and yet it is accessible and wide-ranging, making it an excellent resource for either the interested non-expert, or for teaching on undergraduate courses in History and Modern Languages.
