In this last issue of 2019 the first article perhaps (re-)exposes you to practices and cultures of care other than those familiar to most of a profession which can appear to assume that the struggle for ‘best practice’ is one synonymous with its own methodologies being interoperable across all types and traditions of cultural heritage. In focussing on how conservation education can benefit from being moved out of the classroom and into the field to augment understanding around the care of artefacts from non-Western cultures, Robert Lazarus Lane’s argument is implicitly underpinned by the United Nation’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
