Abstract Kiribati armour is a distinctive composite artefact made from coconut fibre and found in many museum collections around the world. This article focusses on recent research conducted on these artefacts in preparation for an exhibition at the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, University of Cambridge in 2017. It considers how Kiribati armour would have been made and used, and discusses the remedial treatment of an historic suit of armour and the production of a new one. Finally it argues that taking an interdisciplinary approach to exhibiting an artefact can provide a richer and more nuanced understanding of museum collections.
