ABSTRACT Grieving work as a professional is one thing; it is another when the loss is personal. This essay interweaves a personal writing-in-grief process with reflections by a grief educator who uses literary resources as prompts for his professional grief support processes. Specifically, the essay addresses the death of a grandson to a drug overdose and his grandfather’s grieving process, augmented by commentary and reflections from poetry, song lyrics, and the literatures of grief, bereavement and bibliotherapy. The metaphors of thresholds or liminal spaces and their ambiguity for grieving persons will also be continuing threads.
