Study on the influence of fretting wear on electrical performance of SMA connector

Fretting wear induced by micro motion is one of the most important factors that affect the electrical contact performance of all electrical connectors. The insertion/withdrawal experiments of certain Sub-Miniature version A (SMA) connector were carried out based on the micro vibration test system. As well as the peak value of the insertion force, the larger the steady-state value of the pullout force, the faster the contact wear and the fewer cycles required to reach the threshold (5mΩ). Reducing the peak and the steady value of the insertion force slowed down the surge of the insertion process but reduced the wear rate. Lower the frequency enhanced the pin wear, which was adverse to contact electrical performance.
