One facet of Covid-19 that will have long-standing consequences is massive job loss and unemployment. While the virus has been devastating for all Americans, those who are now facing financial hardship are doubly impacted. Economic hardship has translated into family stress, increased rates of family violence and exacerbated mental health problems. The papers in this issue highlight vulnerable youth and adults and provide new insights that can improve services at a time they are most needed. In “Muslim refugee women’s perspectives on intimate partner violence”, authors Susan Fineran and Konli Hermeet present the experiences of Muslim refugee women. In addition to cultural perspectives, the refugee women in this qualitative study discuss the barriers they face. Cultural perspectives are also highlighted by author Aslihan Nicanci in “Parental monitoring in Turkish immigrant families in the United States.” Parents discuss their tendencies toward overprotectiveness and the effect of this stance on their children. Ways to promote retention in preventive programs to support healthy couple relationships is tackled by authors Lisanne Bulling, Katherine Baucom, Richard Heyman, Amy Slep, Danielle Mitnick and Michael Lorber. In “Predicting program retention in a flexibly-delivered relationship education program for low-income unmarried parents of a newborn.” The authors identify factors contributing to early dropout, including age, therapeutic alliance, and commitment. The need to support parents is also tackled by Jennifer Shadik, whose qualitative study focused on understanding fathers who had previously received services for child maltreatment. In “Fathering and child maltreatment: Understanding the impact of fluidity in fathers’ lives”, the author stresses the need to recognize the impact of changes in living arrangements, incarceration, marital status and involvement with children. Ways to offer meaningful support to families was also examined in “Therapeutic features of the Family Group Conference Model when applied for long-term social assistance recipients.” This qualitative study of Norwegian adults demonstrated the relevance of family group conferences in offering support and solving family conflicts. The importance of offering
