Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore the service experiences of advisory council members engaged in the design, development and implementation of a noncredit executive education program at a large, public university in the mid-Atlantic region of the US that prepares managers for emerging C-suite roles. Thematic analysis of the verbatim transcripts of semi-structured interviews with advisory council members identified personal core values, process expectations, and perceived conditions for council sustainability as the key factors driving advisory council service. Study findings also offer insights about how universities can capitalize on advisory council members’ perspectives around service to strengthen noncredit executive education offerings.
