Synthesis and Structure of 5‐Diphenylphosphino‐ acenaphth‐6‐yl Boronic Acid, Related Dialkyl Esters and Boroxine Rings

The reaction of 5‐Ph2P‐Ace‐6‐Li (prepared in situ from 6‐Ph2P‐Ace‐5‐Br and n‐BuLi in the presence of TMEDA) with B(OMe)3 and B(Oi‐Pr)3, respectively, provided the boronic esters 5‐Ph2P‐Ace‐6‐B(OR)2 (1 a, R=Me; 1 b, R=i‐Pr; Ace=acenaphthyl). Hydrolysis of the crude reaction mixture of 1 a, afforded the boronic acid 5‐Ph2P‐Ace‐6‐B(OH)2 (2), which crystallizes as hydrogen bonded complex 2 ⋅ urn:x-wiley:00442313:media:zaac202000480:zaac202000480-math-0001 TMEDA ⋅ CHCl3. Condensation of 2 yielded the related boroxine [5‐Ph2P‐Ace‐6‐BO]3 (3), which oxidized by air exclusively at one phosphorus atom to give the related boroxine [5‐Ph2P(O)‐Ace‐6‐BO(5‐Ph2P‐Ace‐6‐BO)2] (4). The new compounds have been analyzed by multinuclear NMR‐ and IR spectroscopy as well as X‐ray crystallography.
