Performance Evaluation of Production Scenarios Using Simulation-Based Integrated Optimization (Case Study: An Automotive Industrial Plant)

Nowadays, increasing the efficiency of the production process and determining the methods of measuring performance is the most significant challenge faced by managers by increasing competition among companies and manufacturing centers. The present study aimed to evaluate the performance of production scenarios. In this regard, the production processes of an automotive industrial plant were simulated by the simulation approach. Then, an integrated approach to optimization methods was applied to optimize the simulation model and reach the efficient production scenario. First, the scenarios were defined using the 2k factorial design. Then, the weight of the response variables and decision variables were determined by the fuzzy step-wise weight assessment ratio analysis method. Further, the efficiency of scenarios was calculated by the fuzzy ratio efficiency dominance model, and the optimal scenario was obtained. This approach was implemented in an automobile manufacturing industry in Iran, and the accurate analysis was applied to the proposed approach. The results indicated that, compared to previous studies, the proposed approach is a practical way for determining the optimal scenario in a complex production system, and can help the managers to make efficient decisions to increase profit and productivity.
