Scanning electron beam polishing and defect analysis of 65 steel

The surface quality of metal material directly affects its service life. In this paper, continuous scanning electron beam process (CSEBP) is used to treat the surface of 65 steel. The effects of electron beam current and moving speed on surface roughness are discussed. The results showed that: the surface roughness increased with increasing the bean current and the moving speed. When the electron beam current was 5 mA and the moving speed was 3 mm/s, the surface roughness of 65 steel decreased from 2.0μ m to 0.432μ m. Craters are mostly composed of carbon and oxygen compounds, which are easily ejected when the melt flow rate changes rapidly.
