Preparation of this editorial coincides with the start of the academic year in the UK and in many other countries across Europe. In the UK, finalist social work students are getting ready to re-start their practice learning, having had this experience disrupted earlier this year. Practitioners and academics in the UK are juggling return to office-based work, work from home and care commitments. These two sentences may, at least broadly, echo the experiences of some of the social work students, practitioners and academics. Nonetheless, they are not all-encompassing and inclusive representations of how social work is learned and practised across the many different identities of social work students, practitioners and researchers, both in the UK and across the globe.
