Nikolai Genov, Professor Emeritus, received his PhD from the University of Leipzig and spent his professional life at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Free University Berlin. He served as vice-president of the International Social Science Council (Paris), and as director of the Institute of Eastern European Studies at the Free University Berlin.
