Dissemination is an important outcome for any research project and many academics aspire to publish their findings in top journals. Further, we suggest that early identification of the preferred journal should significantly affect how the research article is written. For instance, deciding where to submit a substantial piece of work should drive many aspects of the process, including generating a specific research question, selecting an appropriate methodology, and adopting a particular writing style. At Information Systems Journal, many factors determine a manuscript's eventual acceptance. While the “absolute” quality of a manuscript (eg, theory development, methodological execution, and writing clarity) obviously influences the chances of acceptance, editors and review teams also look for “fit” with current topical areas or methodological approaches addressed by the journal.
