Abstract There has been a fundamental shift in the literature toward recognizing the personal growth capacity of leisure. The aim of this study was to provide an integrated approach to understanding Templestay performance diversity. Our thesis is that to the extent that temples facilitate personal growth leisure experience outcomes (i.e., self-growth, relaxation, learning, and joy in nature), while providing facility and service quality, they will be successful. We posited that recommendation intention is a function of satisfaction. In turn, satisfaction is a function of personal growth leisure experience outcomes as well as facility and service quality. Based on data from 290 international participants, empirical tests of the hypotheses provide support for the posited explanation of Templestay performance.
