The Impact of the Hydrogenation Conditions on the Fabrication of Dilute Magnetic Semiconductor Based on Degenerated Co/Ga Codoped CdO Nanocrystals

Co/Ga codoped CdO (CdO:Co:Ga) nanocomposite powders were synthesised by solvothermal technique. The present work aimed to fabricate a controlled dilute magnetic semiconductor (DMS) based on transparent conducting oxide (TCO-CdO), for the first time. As planned on the road map, the Co2+ ions were used to introduce stable ferromagnetic (FM) properties in the host CdO nanocrystals, while the Ga3+ ions were used to supply itinerant electrons to support/boost the created the FM. The samples were systematically characterised by several techniques; structural, optical, and magnetic. The crystalline structure was studied by the X-ray diffraction (XRD) method and analysed by the Rietveld refinement method. The optical properties were studied and analysed with the diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) method. The hydrogenation action was found to have a crucial effectiveness to generate FM properties. Therefore, the roadmap of the present work was to observe and measure the effect of the hydrogenation at different temperatures (TH) on the created FM parameters. It was found that the FM figure-of-merit and saturation magnetization increased by ~ 145% and 111%, respectively, with the increasing of TH by 50 °C (from 300 to 350 °C). These results were studied and discussed in details. In general, the magnetic properties of CdO:Co:Ga nanocomposite solid solution system were studied here for the first time and established that it could be used as a candidate for TCO-DMS applications.
