Compact microwave components based on artificial transmission lines with H-type defected ground structure

ABSTRACT In this paper, two compact microwave components, including a Wilkinson power divider and a 3-dB branch-line coupler based on artificial transmission lines (ATLs) with H-type defected ground structure are presented. To achieve compact size, microstrip parallel-plate capacitors and meandered-line inductors are loaded for the ATL. Meanwhile, the H-type defected ground is used to suppress harmonics. In design of the microwave components, ATLs with 70.7 Ω, 50 Ω and 35.4 Ω are utilized. The proposed power divider and branch-line coupler operating at 0.9 GHz occupies merely 33.2% and 33.4% area of the conventional cases, respectively, and have good harmonic suppressions.
