Bridgeless Isolated Zeta-Luo Converter Based EV Charger with PF Pre-regulation

This paper deals with an improved battery charger for electric vehicle (EV) based on bridgeless (BL) isolated Zeta-Luo converter with built-in power factor (PF) pre-regulations capability at supply side. This configuration is achieved with combined Zeta and Luo converter, which are designed to work during individual halves of supply voltage. This gives the additional benefits of higher efficiency than the previously developed converters on the account of sharing the output inductors for both the converters. Moreover, a uniform charging current is obtained for the battery due to presence of output inductance in both converters, as compared to Zeta or Luo converter used for both cycles. A prototype is implemented to investigate the improved power (PQ) based performance of proposed isolated BL PFC converter at steady state and for wide range of varying line voltages. Test results of proposed charger are found satisfactory to show the improved PF based charging in constant current (CC) and constant voltage (CV) modes. The PQ indices at supply side, conform the recommended IEC 61000-3-2 guidelines for all the operating conditions.
