Influence of the Coking Conditions on the Microstructure of Coke Produced from High-Temperature Pitch

Abstract

The properties of coke produced from industrial high-temperature pitch are investigated. It is found that such pitch does not form isotropic coke on carbonization, even though it is characterized by great depth of thermooxidation, as indicated by the high content of materials insoluble in toluene and quinoline and the high softening temperature. Changing the coking conditions does not significantly change the coke structure.
