The Japanese Biochemical Society has held the JB Award since 1993 with the aim of encouraging authors to submit more papers to the Journal of Biochemistry. It is awarded annually to outstanding papers published in the January through December issues of the preceding year. The award-winning papers are selected by an Award Committee, which is appointed by the Board of Trustees. The Award Committee selects the winning papers from a shortlist made up of nominations from individual authors, as well as nominations put forward by a committee of JB Editorial Board members. A cash prize of ¥100,000 is awarded to each winning paper. The prize is awarded to up to five papers per year.
