Publication of the December 2020 (Vol. 46, No. 6) issue of The Diabetes Educator (TDE) marks the 46th year of publication with TDE being the official journal of the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE). I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to my predecessors (Carole Sinicki, Alice Holyoke, and James Pichert) for the many accomplishments that preceded my appointment as editor in 1990. Through their work, TDE provided diabetes educators an opportunity to define and refine the specialty of diabetes education by publishing articles in departments including continuing education, industry update, nutrition update, pharmacy update, professional development, tool chest, book reviews, and health care policy, finance, and law. Throughout the past 46 years, TDE served as a definitive reference source for the science and art of diabetes management, patient education, and education program management.1 Also, major indexing services (eg, PubMed, MEDLINE, CINAHL, PsychINFO) accepted TDE, allowing articles to be accessible to a wide group of practitioners and researchers. Indexing services translate into TDE having a higher reputation with high-quality knowledge of diabetes education and care. This and many more successes associated with TDE have helped shape the growth and future of the journal.
