Abstract This article investigates the prevalence of Arabizi amongst young Kuwaitis who are the product of two different educational and linguistic settings, public and English private schools. It also sheds light on the views associated with the practice along the two sociolinguistic facets of status/solidarity held by young Kuwaitis who have done their basic school years in public vs. English private schools. The study employs a digital questionnaire followed by WhatsApp group discussions. The findings suggest the existence of two nonstandard language varieties that work side by side with standard Arabic, both being transliterated on social media platforms. The study also implies that Kuwait is developing a new sociolinguistic setting whereby Arabizi should be placed across the nation's linguistic profile.
