On the occurrence of flame instabilities during dust explosions

Flame instabilities are known to affect the course of gas explosions and are especially known to increase overpressures during venting. For dust explosions, flame instabilities are often not considered to play an important role. The current paper, however, presents two series of experiments showing that flame instabilities can play a paramount role potentially increasing overpressure considerably and beyond those predicted by widely accepted standards.
