We live in troubled and troubling times. The Americas are aflame with division, impeachment, charges of coups, and self-dealing. Authoritarianism is the rage from Manilla to Madrid. In this oped, I reflect on recent political developments and opine on the role of education in those developments. I draw heavily upon Pankaj Mishra’s Age of Anger (2017) as well as recent articles about educational change published by JCS. The genesis of this piece lies in profound disappointment but concludes with hope in an unseen future pregnant with possibility as well as peril.
