Retraction of “Transferrin-Conjugated Biodegradable Graphene for Targeted Radiofrequency Ablation of Hepatocellular Carcinoma”

The authors retract this article after identifying errors in the fluorescence microscopic images of Figures 3C and 5B. Figure 3C shows microscopic images of an in vitro apoptosis assay for 1, 3, and 5 min. RF exposure on untreated control, functionalized graphene (FG), or transferrin-conjugated FG (TfG) treated cancer cells, respectively. Quantitative cell viability using Alamar-Blue assay (Figure 3B) and an apoptosis study using flow cytometry (Figure 3D) confirmed the enhanced cell death in TfG-treated cells compared to FG. However, errors are present in the microscopy images: In the untreated cell with 5 min RF exposure, the data presented in Figure 3C(iii) was misplaced with that of TfG, 1 min exposure. In the case of the FG sample, 1 min data presented was another micrograph of the same sample at 3 min exposure. Similarly, in Figure 5B, the image of FG, 5 min exposure, was repeated for FG, 3 min. Although the quantitative data were presented correctly, we believe that the misrepresentation of microscopic images warrants retraction of this paper. The original Article was published on 11/4/2015 and retracted on 12/18/2020. This article has not yet been cited by other publications.
