A rare case of Ag(I) coordination polymer having five-coordinate planar pentagon metal center

In this communication, three transition-metal [Ag(I), Cu(II) and Mn(II)] complexes based upon 4-([2,2′:6′,2′'-terpyridin]-4′-yl)benzoic acid (HL) were synthesized via solution and solvothermal methods, respectively. X-ray single-crystal diffraction analyses demonstrate that all complexes 13 are one-dimensional (1D) coordination polymers with abundant structural diversity, formulated as [AgL]n (1), [CuLCl]n⋅nH2O (2) and [MnL2]n⋅nCH3OH (3). They are a 1D linear chain 1 where the L- ligand acts as the pentadentate N3O2-type bridging mode, a 1D square-wave-like chain 2 in which L- serves as a tetradentate N3O1-type bridging ligand, and 1D dinuclear-based double-armed chain 3 where L- adopts two kinds of coordination fashions namely pentadentate N3O2-type bridging and monodentate O1-type ending. It is worth mentioning that the Ag(I) ion in 1 exhibits rare five-coordinate planar pentagon coordination geometry.
