Abstract

In this paper, I employ reflexive autoethnography to explore my journey with grief following the unexpected illness and death of my mother. Specifically, I explore my grief as an only child and the reconciliation with my father following a period of estrangement during my immense grief. In addition, I utilize the construct of social support as a framework to process my emotions and perceptions of my grief. By sharing my experiences, I hope to encourage others to reflect on their own perspectives of grief and to foster dialogue about the universal experience of loss.
