Sustainable electroactive materials for energy storage

Increase in demand for green energy, due to its eco-friendly property, safety, and cost-effectiveness, is fundamental for sustainable energy supply. Recent interest in green energy has boosted research related to battery and supercapacitor technologies. However, there is a need to discover novel biomass sources. Of all the green energy materials currently explored, biomass-derived carbons seem to have great potential. This is because that such material is of low cost, abundant, and easy to process, with good stability and versatility. The present review study highlights innovative research studies on biomass green materials and their applications with regard to batteries and supercapacitors. Furthermore, the advantages and disadvantages of green strategic technologies are discussed.
