Synthesis, structure, and catalytic activity of [Cp*Ru(η1-ArCN)3]PF6 complexes

The synthesis and X-ray structures of three new [Cp*Ru(η1-ArCN)3]PF6 (Ar = aryl) complexes are reported. These complexes are thermally converted to [Cp*Ru(η6-ArCN)]PF6 (Ar = aryl) sandwich complexes and subsequently recovered by UV light irradiation. The structures of the sandwich complexes are likewise determined. Trans-selective hydroboration of internal alkynes using the synthesized complexes is disclosed.
