The effect of coupling alternating current (AC) with biosorption using Tunisian corn stigmata on the removal of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) from aqueous solution was studied. A comparative study was performed between biosorption alone and biosorption coupled with AC, for the removal of Cr(VI). The effects of various operating parameters were studied, such as the solution pH, the contact time, the initial concentration, the temperature, and the salt concentration. The comparison between biosorption in the presence and absence of an AC shows the importance of the AC in the acceleration of the biosorption process. The kinetic study showed that the fractal Brouers‐Sotolongo model was the best model for describing the random distribution of the active sites.
