BiCMOS-Based High-Performance THz-Wave Couplers for 5G and Beyond

For supporting communication links with increased date-rate between the base-station and the user, more higher operating frequencies with much broader bandwidth have to be used. Terahertz (THz) bands are very promising to meet such demands and International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has approved a THz-band for the fifth-generation (5G) mobile communication and beyond in 2019, which is driving the research interests in THz-wave wireless communication systems worldwide. The key challenging now is how to reduce the entire THz-wave systems’ sizes and weights, and particularly the costs.
