Formation of a Fused Carbatriazaalane via Deinsertion of Benzonitrile from a Triazaalane

Dicarbatriaza-alanes/gallanes, which contain six-membered Al/GaC2N3 ring, and their AlMe3 and GaMe3 adducts have been prepared by treating N-(2-pyridyl)amidines with AlMe3 and GaMe3•OEt2. Upon thermolysis, one of the AlMe3 adducts has afforded a nonacyclic Al-N-C frame-work containing six six-membered AlC2N3 rings, two four-membered AlCN2 rings and one four-membered Al2N2 ring with the elimination of benzonitrile. Deinsertion of benzonitrile in this reaction is quite unprecedented. Except for one, all the compounds reported in this article have been structurally characterized.
