Novel Route to Preparing Magnetic Fe3O4@SiO2@MoO3 Core–Dual Shell Nanoparticles via Solid-Phase Reverse Microemulsion for the Oxidative Cleavage of Fatty Acids

We report an innovative two-step process for the synthesis of a core@dual shell structure. The synthesis concept is based on the new approach of the solid-phase reverse microemulsion associated with modification of the Fe3O4 core nanoparticle surface. The obtained nanocomposites exhibit a uniform SiO2–MoO3 double shell coated on the Fe3O4 core, as revealed by scanning transmission electron microscopy elemental mapping and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis. Importantly, the obtained material offers a viable platform for the oxidative catalytic cleavage of fatty acids in terms of high catalytic performance and recoverability.
