Quantification of N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide and its main degradation products by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy

Abstract

An important part of Lyocell fibers production is solvent recycling. Determining the content of the degradation products in the solvent will be helpful to select a reasonable solvent recovery process. However, a suitable method to simultaneously measure N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide and its main degradation products N-methylmorpholine and morpholine has not yet been reported, hence in this paper, a nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy method for quantitative analysis of N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide and its major degradation products was established. The feasibility of this nuclear magnetic resonance method was verified by using it to determine the contents of N-methyl morpholine-N-oxide, N-methylmorpholine, and morpholine in analytical samples and actual sample.
