From the 24th to 28th of June 2019, the German city of Düsseldorf hosted the 4th ESTAD 2019 as the accompanying conference to the metallurgical trade fair, METEC.

ESTAD stands for “European Steel Technology and Application Days”, an event located in Europe with worldwide participation. In 2013, the German steel institute VDEh proposed a regularly organized European steel event, which should be open to steel producers, steel users, plant suppliers, research institutes, as well as universities from all around the world. ESTAD was born and since then is hosted in joint cooperation between the Austrian Society for Metallurgy and Materials (ASMET), the Swedish Steel Producers Association (Jernkontoret), the Associazione Italiana di Metallurgia (AIM), and the German Steel Institute VDEh. The 1st ESTAD took place in April 2014 in Paris, France, the 2nd together with METEC in June 2015 in Düsseldorf, Germany, and the 3rd in June 2017 in Vienna, Austria.

The 4th ESTAD 2019 offered participants the opportunity to learn about the most important state‐of‐the‐art technologies and developments in iron and steel production as well as about steel materials and their applications. More than 650 technical presentations covered the fields ironmaking, steelmaking, rolling, steel materials and application, surface technologies, additive manufacturing, environmental and energy aspects, as well as in addition to all aspects of digitalization and Industry 4.0.
