Highly efficient and eco-friendly corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in 5.0 M HCl: An anti-pitting and anti-cracking agent

Abstract The Agaricus bisporus was tested as an eco-friendly corrosion inhibitor for mild steel (MS) in 5 M HCl at room temperature. Different electrochemical and surface characterization techniques were used. SEM, metallurgical imaging, and Langmuir adsorption isotherm studies confirmed the adsorption of A. bisporus on MS surface supported by an increase in Warburg impedance (Zw), capacitive loop and Faradaic current (IF). The negative value of ΔG∗ads, i.e., -15.76 kJ/mol proves physisorption of A. bisporus on MS. Bode phase angle curve of A. bisporus depicts one relaxation agreeing to semi-circle in Nyquist module. The correlation coefficient (R2) was found to be 0.9973. A. bisporus shows 98.9 percent corrosion inhibition efficiency (PCIE). No pits and cracks were visible on the surface of MS coupons in the presence of A. bisporus.
