Characteristic mode analysis of linear to circular polarization conversion metasurface

ABSTRACT This paper presents a characteristic mode(CM) analysis of polarization conversion metasurface (MTS) placed in the near field of an exciting antenna. CM analysis has been carried out for three different MTS configurations with respect to excitation slot antenna. A systematic design approach has been adopted by identifying the orthogonal modes with phase difference. The orthogonal modes with broadside radiation patterns are identified and optimized to have 90 excitation phase difference. Simulated, as well as, the measurement results at the designed frequency are presented to validate the analysis.
