2018 Lush Training Prize Winner: Laboratory of Education and Research in Pharmacology and Cellular Toxicology, LPCT Team, Brazil
Alternatives to Laboratory Animals ( IF 2.7 ) Pub Date : 2020-10-26 , DOI: 10.1177/0261192920912077

The Laboratory of Education and Research in Pharmacology and Cellular Toxicology (LPCT), based at the Pharmacy School, Universidade Federal de Goiás, Brazil, is now known as the Laboratory of Education and Research in In Vitro Toxicology (Tox In). The founder, and Director of the laboratory, is Professor of Toxicology Dr Marize Valdares. The team’s aim is to introduce humane practices into the sciences. The current animal-based paradigm is ingrained in the mindset of students, and Dr Valdares believes that better education and training for 21st century science is the basis for a long-term shift in thinking beyond the current use of animal models. The team has been involved in introducing new in vitro scientific concepts to undergraduate and graduate students in the pharmaceutical sciences, as well as training professionals, scientists and regulators from Brazil and other South American countries in non-animal methods.
