Abstract

This article lays out the author’s views on the evolution of approaches to describing the heat transfer crisis during boiling in a large volume. The preparation of this commentary is related to the publication of E.D. Fedorovich’s brief report “On the Feasibility of Developing a Two-Stage Model of the Boiling Crisis of a Liquid Wetting the Heating Surface,” which outlines the idea of developing a two-stage model of the emergence and development of a heat transfer crisis during boiling, in which one of the stages is the violation of the stability of the two-phase wall layer and the other is the appearance of and fusion of dry spots on the heating surface.
