Cu–C Metal Matrix Nanocomposites: Synthesis

Abstract An analysis of the results of original research on the synthesis of hybrid composite materials, copper–carbon nanostructures, carried out over the past five years in the laboratories of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University under the scientific supervision of the author, is presented. The features of the formation of the structure and properties of composite materials are considered depending on the synthesis method, the choice and amount of carbon nanoadditives. Possible mechanisms that determine the physical and mechanical properties of materials have been suggested. It has been shown for a number of characteristics taken as an example (hardness, thermal and electrical conductivity) that the entire complex of physical and mechanical properties can be varied in a wide range, which is extremely important for the practical use of hybrid composite materials.
