Photo and Bio Activities of Magnetic Electrospun Recycled Polyester Mat

Magnetic electrospun recycled polyester mat was made from a bath sonicated solution containing recycled polyester and magnetite nanoparticles (Fe3O4 NPs) through electrospinning. The recycled polyester was used instead of virgin one considering the environmental conservation and economy issues. The magnetic electrospun recycled polyester mat was prepared with 35 nm magnetite nanoparticles synthesized through the precipitation method. Field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-Ray diffraction (XRD) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) were used to study the morphology of the surface, crystalline structure and magnetic properties. The photo and bio activities of magnetic electrospun recycled polyester mat were improved comparing with electrospun recycled polyester mat. Magnetic electrospun mat showed the magnetic properties for easily removal of mat from the solution. The magnetic electrospun mat produced with 5% magnetite nanoparticles was effective for the bacteria reduction greater than 99% against E. coli.
