Morphology and Composition Characteristics of Solid Solution in Te-treated Y1Cr17 Steel

This paper aims to study the effect of Te on the morphology and composition characteristics of the Te bearing solid solution in the Y1Cr17 stainless steel. By adding various quantities of Te powders to steel, the smelting experiments were carried out with a tube electric furnace. And two- and three-dimensional morphologies of sulfide inclusions in the steel along with elemental concentrations were detected by a scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and an optical microscopy (OM). Results show that Te enhanced the sizes of inclusions and more Te contributed to the more scattered distribution of the inclusions along the grain boundary in the metallic material. The forms of the inclusions in the steel were found as (i) rod-like, (ii) spindle, (iii) spherical. The structures of the inclusions exposed were hollow and solid. Te reduced the concentrations of Nb and Fe, strengthened the concentration of Cr in solid solution, and had great effect on the concentration of S in Te-bearing solid solution.
