Numerical study on effect of pulse rate injection during hydraulic fracturing in low permeability reservoir

Abstract In this article, the effect of pulsating parameters on fractures extension was studied by using the cohesive element method and employed Abaqus as the platform for the simulations. The parameters such as injection rate, peak amplitude, approaching angle, in situ stress, and the natural fracture cementing strength were the focus of this study. The results of the simulations show that the fracture width increases when the injection rate increases. The same result was obtained when the peak amplitude is increasing. It is also shown that the pulse rate injection has greater ability for the reactivation of natural fractures.
