Factors limiting lifetime of nuclear power plants with pressurized-water reactors

Abstract This paper builds on papers NED 9185 and NED 9377. Most of the referred supporting information comes from author‘s doctoral thesis (Křivanek, 2018) Factors Limiting Life Time of Nuclear Power Plants with Pressurized-water Reactors published in 2018. The paper provides an overview of operation plans in countries operating PWR reactors, discusses the most important factors limiting lifetime of NPPs leading to permanent shut-down of units and discusses in detail technical factors which can potentially limit lifetime of PWR reactors in future. Conclusions of this article show increasing importance of ageing management and technological obsolescence management which will play a key role for operation of PWR reactors for 60 years but mainly for operation beyond 60 years.
