Right-Hand Rule 3C VSP Wavefield Separation Method

Wavefield separation is one critical step in the three-component (3C) vertical seismic profiling (VSP) data processing. The conventional 3C VSP wavefield separation method exhibits low precision polarization angle and cannot obtain desirable results. This letter proposed the right-hand rule 3C VSP wavefield separation method which has many advantages over the conventional 3C VSP wavefield separation method—particularly the polarization angle precision and wavefields continuity. Analysis of real 3C VSP data demonstrates that the right-hand rule 3C VSP wavefield separation method can enhance polarization angle precision and show a very desirable ability to produce high-continuity wavefields.
