Rhenium(I) complexes from 2-(2'-hydroxyphenyl)benzimidazolyl based bis-chelating ligand and 4-(amino)pyridine/4-(dimethylamino)pyridine

Two fac-Re(CO)3 core based dinuclear complexes were obtained from Re2(CO)10, 1,4-phenylene-bis(2-(2′-hydroxyphenyl)benzimidazolyl) (H2-L) and neutral N-donors (4-(amino)pyridine/4-(dimethylamino)pyridine). Both the complexes are characterized using various analytical and spectroscopic techniques. The molecular structure of 2 obtained from a SCXRD analysis shows that two anionic phenoxybenzimidazolyl motifs of L2− are twisted, resulting in an acyclic dinuclear helical structure. Both the complexes display strong emission in the solution state at room temperature.
