Structural and Mechanical Properties of Electrofused-Corundum–Zirconia-Dioxide Composite Material Modified with a Eutectic Additive in the Al 2 O 3 –MnO–TiO 2 System

Results of studies of the structural and mechanical properties of aluminum-zirconium composite ceramics with different ratios of Al2O3 (white electrofused corundum F-1000) and 3Y-TZP (tetragonal polycrystalline ZrO2 stabilized with 3.0 mol.% Y2O3) obtained by semi-dry molding followed by free sintering are presented. Introduction of a eutectic additive to the ceramic composition leads to formation of a specific structure of the material of the composite-in-composite type. It is shown that an increase of the eutectic additive content in the alumina matrix increases the composite relative density from 93.5 to 98.8%. Changes in the ceramic composition and microstructure affect its mechanical properties.
