Copper phthalocyanine has been prepared by simple chemical approach and its structural and optical properties were investigated. X-ray diffraction pattern exhibits a notable peak at ##IMG## [http://ej.iop.org/images/2053-1591/7/9/095102/mrxabb5caieqn1.gif] {$2\theta =6.75^\circ $} assigned to the ##IMG## [http://ej.iop.org/images/2053-1591/7/9/095102/mrxabb5caieqn2.gif] {$\alpha -\,$} phase of CuPc. SEM images show the particles distributed in nanospheres with average size at about 50 nm.
