The formation of well-faceted microcrystals on the surface of chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) with the addition of ferrocene (Fe(C5H5)2) under the action of a high-power ion beam (HPIB) was found. Microcrystals are formed when the polymer is irradiated by an HPIB with a current density in the range of 70–120 A/cm2. Microcrystals had a most probable transverse size in the range of 5–8 μm. The maximum microcrystal growth rate was estimated as ∼5 μm/μs. It is assumed that microcrystal growth occurs through redeposition of the ablation products and decomposition products of CPVC.
