The micropollutant carbamazepine (CBZ) is persistent and resistant to conventional wastewater treatment. This study investigated the role of fermentative acidogenic bacteria (FAB) and sulfate‐reducing bacteria (SRB) for CBZ biodegradation and volatile fatty acid (VFA) production.
