Mechanical Behavior and Formability of Quench and Partition Steel Sheets

Quench and partition (QP) steel is a class of third-generation high-strength steels with effective ductility. The uniaxial tensile test was used to evaluate fundamental mechanical parameters. These parameters for QP980 are shown to be much higher than those for HSLA450 and DP590. Then the forming limit diagram of QP980 was constructed using bulging test results. The forming limit of QP980 was not seriously weakened with its ultrahigh strength. The QP980 formability was verified with FEM analysis combined with actual stamping. These data were compared with the results for other three high-strength steels (HSLA450, DP600, and TRIP600). QP980 is found to be a promising combination of high strength and good ductility, with its formability being close to DP600 of higher strength.
